The school focused on improving the learning and teaching of reading through:
- High quality training of TAs in phonics, with a varied approach and closely monitored;
- Close monitoring of guided reading sessions;
- Reading diaries used and monitored;
- Inviting parents into school to support in reading afternoons, and providing modelling sessions for supporting the teaching of reading;
- High profile reading displays;
- Governors trained to conduct reading sessions with children.
