We reviewed our teaching of phonics skills in the following ways:
- In addition to Literacy lessons, all children have phonics sessions every day. All staff get involved in this;
- Children are prepared for the test throughout the year by the Headteacher, and gaps diagnosed, then worked on in interventions. This gives these sessions extra importance. Also, the skills for securing the test are different to the skills of phonics learning in the classroom, so children are also supported in the different skills needed for the test;
- There is an expectation of learning at every opportunity – all children come into school to a prepared activity straight away.
