Different types of visits conducted leading to a raised profile of the governors.
There were a variety of governors in school. Many of our children can now name a governor. For example, in a recent assembly about safety, many children knew which governor was ‘in charge of’ keeping them safe.
Staff got to know their class link governor. Teachers are relaxed about governor visits, because they have built up a relationship with several governors.
Our Standards and Excellence officer felt that the governors needed to challenge the Headteacher more, and their increased knowledge of the school development plan has helped with this. They can offer challenge about their area.
Governors needed to provide more supportive challenge across a range of areas.
Visits were not structured or linked to the development plan or governors’ skills, and they were not undertaken on a regular basis.
The need was identified when ‘governor visits’ were raised at various committees and whole governing body meetings. Some governors were not sure about why they needed to visit and what their purpose was. They felt that they could not write effective governor monitoring reports, because there was a lack of focus in the intention of the visit.
